About the Role
Our Community Dental Service provides dental services to over 90,000 children aged 0-13 in Canterbury and South Canterbury and supports our colleagues on the West Coast. There are 90 front-line clinical staff who work with modern equipment in 22 mobile dental units and 13 dental clinics.
This supernumerary clinical education role focuses on coaching, mentoring, and supporting Dental / Oral Health Therapists and Dental Assistants across the Community Dental Service in Canterbury and South Canterbury.
Working closely with new graduates, junior staff, new employees, and those returning to practice, you will help build confidence, competence, and strong clinical foundations. You will also support Dental Assistants through effective delegation, competency development, and scope-of-practice guidance.
The role plays a key part in workforce development, service quality, and equitable oral health outcomes for our communities
Key responsibilities will include:
- Provide practical, workplace-based clinical coaching and support for dental/oral health therapists
- Support transition and development of new and returning clinicians
- Role model evidence-informed and culturally safe clinical practice
- Enhance training and competency frameworks for Dental Assistants
- Contribute to quality improvement and workforce development initiatives
- Promote Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and equity-focused practice
- Support as required for West Coast
About You
You are an experienced clinician and natural coach who enjoys developing others and strengthening clinical practice. You bring credibility, warmth, and cultural humility to your work, and are motivated by improving outcomes for both patients and colleagues. To be successful in this role you will also demonstrate the following:
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills
- Minimum 5 years post-graduate experience, with strong Dental Therapy scope expertise
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and reducing health inequities
- Full, clean NZ driver’s licence
- Ability to travel away from home
- Postgraduate qualification and/or experience in clinical education, coaching, or adult learning is desirable
- Experience in professional supervision and workforce development is advantageous

About the role
The Child, Adolescent and Family (CAF) Access Team receives and responds to non-urgent referrals/enquiries for CAF specialist mental health services & provides an emergency response, if required, with ability to deliver short-term follow-up for Tāngata Whaiora (young people) and their whānau with an acute mental health concern.
We are seeking someone who works well under pressure, communicates effectively and who has a background in Mental Health. It would be highly advantageous to have experience working with tāngata whaiora and whānau, and an ability to deliver evidenced based treatments. You will receive a comprehensive orientation to work across all clinical functions of the team and on-going support and appropriate external training as required.
Based at Hillmorton Hospital Kahurangi Building, this friendly multi-disciplinary team have expanded to provide short-term treatment interventions for young people who are referred to the service.
About You
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Phone triaging of tāngata whaiora when in crisis, in conjunction with their family/ whānau;
- Providing comprehensive psychiatric assessments and interventions to young people in psychiatric crisis and brief case management if felt necessary by multi-disciplinary team;
- Triaging routine (non-urgent) referrals into our CAF services either via phone or at times if necessary via assessment;
- Working collaboratively with external agencies striving for better health outcomes in our community.
Skills and experience
- The ability to effectively communicate and work collaboratively with tāngata whaiora & family/ whānau, within the team and with other agencies;
- Preferably a minimum of 2 years mental health experience along with knowledge of general mental health assessment or risk;
- Experience within a Child and Adolescent setting and an understanding of child and adolescent development is advantageous;
- As some travel is required in this position, a current NZ driver’s license is essential;
- Must be registered with Nursing Council of New Zealand with current APC and must have mental health scope.
About You
You will be a NZ registered Social Worker or overseas equivalent. Central to your success and enjoyment in this role will be your excellent communication and teamwork skills, an ability to build rapport with tāngata whaiora, family/ whānau and health providers and your interest in developing community mental health Social work practice.
In particular, you would contribute your significant social work knowledge to the service’s strong focus on family/whanau and cultural inclusive practice in a community setting.
Supervision and support will be provided by the Social Workers within the Specialist Mental Health Service. The successful applicant will be supported to attend appropriate training courses relevant to this clinical social work role.
To succeed in this position it is essential you will;
- Be a registered New Zealand Registered Social Worker or have eligibility to obtain.
- Have a passion for working with tāngata whaiora and their whanau’s.
- Have a minimum of 3 years' experience in Social Work.

About the Role
Dealing with acute orthopaedic injuries, orthopaedic trauma and other orthopaedics diagnoses, Ward A4 offers an exciting and challenging multidisciplinary (MDT) environment and will provide you with an excellent opportunity to extend your surgical nursing knowledge and skills. Our cohesive MDT team includes a Nurse Educator and Clinical Nurse Specialist to help support and develop our valued nursing staff to ensure you obtain all the opportunities orthopaedic nursing has to offer.
About the Service
Ward A4 is an Acute Orthopaedic and Spinal ward with an eye for excellence in nursing care. It has one of two acute orthopaedic wards based at Christchurch Hospital it has 32 beds and includes a dedicated 8 bed Progressive Care Unit.
Ward A4 is also a Dedicated Education Unit where you’ll enjoy being involved in the development of student nurses.

Enthusiastic and self-motivated, you will have excellent communication skills and a passion for orthopaedic nursing. The General Surgery & Surgical Progressive Care Unit (SPCU) has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join the team.

About the Service
Our team provides care for our acute general surgery patients, undergoing general surgical procedures within the ward environment and high dependency surgical patients in our 8 bed Surgical Progressive Care Unit. We are a Dedicated Education Unit for staff wanting to be involved in the development of student nurses.
About You
We are looking for an energetic nurse who is eager to strengthen and develop their skills. Ideally you will be an experienced Registered Nurse who is passionate about Acute General Surgery and Progressive Care and can work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of care and improved patient outcomes are attained.
Working in our large multidisciplinary team will enable you to work closely with and learn from our Surgeons, Nurse Educator and Clinical Nurse Specialist, who are all experts in their specialties and who are focused on advances in surgical care that improve clinical outcomes.
- 2+ Years acute surgical or medical experience
- Ability to work all shifts – Morning, Afternoon and Nights
- Commitment to providing and maintaining high standards of nursing practice within our service is essential
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to engage well
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to effectively and efficiently complete tasks
- You will have effective problem solving and decision-making skills
- Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)

About You
You will have advanced experience and hold a current New Zealand Registration and Annual Practicing Certificate with an Allied Health professional body. You will bring proven experience in building high-performing teams through coaching and development, and a passion for creating an inclusive and engaging workplace where people are supported to contribute, grow, and succeed.
As a Professional Development Facilitator, you'll will promote professional development, clinical excellence and evidence-based practice across AHST, building positive relationships while working collaboratively to deliver sustainable outcomes.

- Experience with clinical teaching/supervision, training and development of staff
- Experience making judgements in complex situations where there is incomplete information or solutions are not obvious.
- Strong facilitation, communication, organisational and relationship management skills
- Ability to work independently and across disciplines.
- Demonstrated knowledge for the NZ health sector.
- Competence in a variety of administration and health record applications
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
