About the Role
Older persons health wards provide assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for older people recovering from illness or surgery. We are committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care that supports recovery, promotes independence, and enhances wellbeing.
A Hospital Aide is an integral part of our team of health professionals. We are looking for Hospital Aides who have excellent communication skills, and the ability to use their initiative. You will enjoy being busy and don’t mind that the role can be at times physically demanding. You will be hard-working and enjoy working in a well-established team.
The role of a Hospital Aide varies from day to day and contribute to the unit is running smoothly and to its highest potential. This could mean performing a variety of tasks such as:
- Basic patient care
- Patient therapeutic observation
- Cleaning and tidying the ward/house keeping
- Assisting the nursing team with a variety of tasks on the ward
- Ensuring that patients have the best experience possible
Skills and Experience
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to engage well
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a multidisciplinary team
- Initiative and a proactive approach to work
- Ideally experience as a Healthcare Assistant or similar

About the role
Christchurch Hospital is seeking a Plastic Surgeon to join our Plastic Surgery team on a fixed-term basis, providing sabbatical cover during 2027.
We are looking for a specialist who is available for either three months or six months, with the following periods available:
- 1 March 2027 – 31 May 2027
- 1 June 2027 – 31 August 2027

This is an opportunity to join an established Plastic Surgery service within a tertiary teaching hospital and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-focused specialist care across Canterbury.
About the service
The Plastic Surgery team provides specialist care to patients across the Canterbury region. As part of the team, you will work collaboratively with Plastic Surgery colleagues, medical and nursing staff, allied health professionals and other specialist services.
The role includes a combination of outpatient clinics, operating theatre activity, acute Plastic Surgery responsibilities and teaching. You will also contribute to clinical meetings, audit, continuing medical education and service-related activities.
About you
You will be a qualified and experienced Plastic Surgeon with:
- Specialist registration in Plastic Surgery, or eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- A current Annual Practising Certificate, where applicable.
- Postgraduate training in Plastic Surgery.
- Expertise across general Plastic Surgery.
- Post-Fellowship training and/or experience appropriate to working within a tertiary teaching centre, including an appropriate subspecialty interest.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- The ability to manage and prioritise a busy clinical workload.
- A commitment to patient-focused care, continuing professional development and quality improvement.
Experience in undergraduate teaching would also be desirable.
What you can expect
You will join a collegial and supportive Plastic Surgery team and have the opportunity to work within a large tertiary hospital environment in Christchurch.
The role provides exposure to a broad range of specialist Plastic Surgery work, with opportunities to contribute to teaching, clinical quality improvement and service development.
The position is up to 40 hours per week, with participation in the 1:8 on-call roster as required.

We have an exciting Fixed term opportunity for an Obstetrics & Gynaecology Medical Specialist to join our team at Christchurch Women’s Hospital.
Christchurch Women’s Hospital is located on the central Christchurch Hospital campus, alongside Hagley Park and within walking distance of the central city. It is a busy tertiary referral centre with approximately 6,000 births each year. Our comprehensive service includes Maternal Fetal Medicine alongside a large and varied gynaecology service. We are also the regional referral centre for Gynaecological Oncology for Te Waipounamu, the South Island.
Our Senior Medical Officer team is predominantly generalist, providing care across both Obstetrics and Gynaecology and working collaboratively with a broad multidisciplinary team.
As an Obstetrics & Gynaecology Medical Specialist, you will contribute across the breadth of the service, providing high-quality specialist care to women and whānau. The role includes inpatient and acute care, outpatient clinics and participation in the full SMO on-call roster.
Your clinical responsibilities may include:
- General and high-risk antenatal care;
- Acute obstetric and gynaecological services;
- Colposcopy and outpatient procedural gynaecology;
- Inpatient specialist care and clinical decision-making;
- Supervision, teaching and support of junior medical staff and trainees; and
- Contribution to clinical governance, quality improvement and the ongoing development of our service.
We particularly welcome applicants with a strong obstetric focus. There is scope to further develop areas of special interest within the service, including early pregnancy, preterm birth and high-risk obstetrics.
As part of our commitment to equitable, patient and whānau-centred care, there may also be opportunities to contribute to outreach services, supporting access to specialist care closer to home for communities across Waitaha.
Christchurch Women’s Hospital is an accredited training centre for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG), with both training and non-training registrars. As a Senior Medical Officer, you will play an important role in teaching, supervision and supporting the development of our future specialist workforce.

About the Role
Ashburton Hospital provides a range of Inpatient, Day patient, Outpatient and Community based health services to the wider mid-Canterbury community. The Hospital has 74 beds and annually admits around 5,000 patients, cares for 2,600 day patients and 15,000 patients attend outpatient appointments.
Rural health services employ around 550 full time and part time staff, which includes a clinical workforce in medicine, surgery and gynaecology, supported by nursing and allied health professionals with extensive experience in a wide range of clinical situations.
This role will involve providing Social Work to inpatient, outpatient and community services to Ashburton and Rural Health Service. You would be part of a small team of experienced Social Workers who work together to provide a generalist service across the life span where no 2 days will be the same.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Providing high-quality Social Work services which meets the needs of the inpatients, outpatients and community patients / clients of Mid Canterbury
- Providing evaluation, therapeutic and educational services to patients/clients of Ashburton
- Working within a multi-disciplinary team and liaising with health providers
In this role, you will be responsible for providing assessment and intervention for adults, children and families with illness and/or disability to support them to remain in their own environment for as long as possible.
About You

About the Role
Ashburton Hospital provides a range of Inpatient, Day patient, Outpatient and Community based health services to the wider mid-Canterbury community. The Hospital has 74 beds and annually admits around 5,000 patients, cares for 2,600 day patients and 15,000 patients attend outpatient appointments.
Rural health services employ around 550 full time and part time staff, which includes a clinical workforce in medicine, surgery and gynaecology, supported by nursing and allied health professionals with extensive experience in a wide range of clinical situations.
This role will involve providing Occupational Therapy to inpatient, outpatient and community services to Ashburton and Rural Health Service. You would be part of a small team of experienced Occupational Therapists who work together to provide a generalist service where no 2 days will be the same.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Providing high-quality Occupational Therapy services which meets the needs of the inpatients, outpatients and community patients / clients of Mid Canterbury
- Providing evaluation, therapeutic and educational services to patients/clients of Ashburton
- Working
within a multi-disciplinary team and liaising with health providers

We are seeking a Registered Nurse to join our Community Intensive Pathway team working alongside a dynamic, multidisciplinary group committed to providing high quality, recovery focused care in the community.
About the role
CIP provides brief and focused care for more acutely unwell consumers in their home while on leave or following discharge from hospital, or to prevent an admission to hospital. The service provides post discharge follow up and increased support to our NGO partners including respite and Te Ao Marama (a community-based peer lead, acute admission alternative service).
This role joins three existing positions meaning we can create a dynamic, supportive team delivering increased home-based follow-up in the community. CIP is currently managed by the Clinical Manager of Emergency Mental Health Service however provides clinical care to consumers under both adult inpatient and community teams.
About you
We are looking for a motivated and skilled mental health nurse who can bring clinical expertise, adaptability, and empathy to this role.
In this role you will:
- Be able to work independently, undertake home visits on your own if risk assessment determines it safe to do so.
- Work together in a collaborative manner within a small team, sharing the workload and decision making.
- Be flexible, confident, experienced and understand the value of intensive community-based support and enjoy working in partnership with consumers and their family-whanau.
- Have excellent communication skills to effectively work with a range of consumers, family-whānau, colleagues, health providers and other agencies
- Be self-motivated with drive, passion and initiative.
Essential Requirements
- Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current Practising Certificate (APC).
- Hold a current full driver’s licence, valid for use in New Zealand.
- Experience working in adult mental health
- Duly Authorised Officer (DAO) or be prepared to train as a DAO and maintain your DAO status while in the role.
- Knowledge of and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi

The Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit is a dynamic, patient-focused service providing a wide range of diagnostic and interventional endoscopy procedures. As a Sterile Technician in endoscope reprocessing, you will work in a team reprocessing endoscopes to meet service needs
About the Role
The Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit undertakes more than 14,000 diagnostic and interventional procedures annually and provides specialised gastrointestinal and respiratory services to the Canterbury population. The service also acts as a secondary and tertiary referral centre for the South Island.
The unit operates from a purpose-built facility at Christchurch Hospital, with eight procedure rooms, two recovery areas and two reprocessing areas, across two floors. It also provides specialist endoscopy equipment to other areas of the hospital campus including Waipapa and Parkside Operating Theatres, Interventional Radiology, and ICU.
In this role you will work 8 hourr shifts, Monday to Friday between the hours of 0730 - 1800hrs with pro rata participation in an on-call roster from 0800hrs Saturday to 2000hrs Sunday for acute endoscopy procedures.
This key team is looking for Qualified Sterile Services Technicians to join us on a permanent basis.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Providing direct technical processing of reusable medical devices (RMDs);
- Ensuring decontamination is achieved through the correct washing process;
- Ensuring that RMDs are inspected and tested as required and specific to each RMD;
- Ensuring all required documentation is completed.
About You
In this role you will work within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of both internal and external stakeholders. This is a fast-paced clinical environment where flexibility, strong clinical judgement, and excellent teamwork are essential
- You will need to be able to perform well under pressure;
- A high level of attention to detail;
- Good communication skills;
- Knowledge of te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
- You will also need to be physically fit as this role involves standing for extended periods
- NZSSA Sterilising Technology Certification.
