About the Role
This Clinical Physiologist role is part of a team providing specialised technical and clinical support services within the Department of Intensive Care at Christchurch Hospital. The Department of Intensive Care delivers services including Tertiary Intensive and High Dependency Care, Deteriorating Patient Intensive Care Outreach Service, and the Air Retrieval Service. As a member of our Scientific and Technical Teams, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality care in Waitaha/Canterbury, while joining a collaborative and supportive environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safe and effective delivery of critical care services. In this varied and hands-on role you will support all critical care equipment systems within ICU, with particular focus on respiratory support technologies, oxygen therapy systems, patient monitoring equipment and complex patient transport requirements across Christchurch Hospital and Canterbury.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Contributing to a positive team environment and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Providing high-level clinical practice and contributing to quality improvement initiatives
- Cultural responsiveness, including working with Māori to ensure equitable health outcomes
- Ensuring safe, effective and efficient management of critical care equipment and associated clinical support services
- Providing advice on respiratory therapy equipment, oxygen delivery systems and specialised ICU technologies
- Implementing new equipment, technologies and clinical systems within ICU and associated services
About You
We are seeking a qualified Physiologist who is confident working across the scope of practice and thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Your skills will include:
- Bachelor of Science (or equivalent) in an appropriate field of health science e.g. Physiology
- Proven clinical experience in critical care, respiratory physiology or a related clinical specialty
- Knowledge of critical care equipment, respiratory support technologies and oxygen therapy systems
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret clinical data accurately
- Excellent time management and attention to technical detail
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- A patient-centred approach, with a commitment to cultural safety and equitable health outcomes
- Knowledge of te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
Essential:
- Current Practising Certificate
- Membership of SCT
- BSc Physiology (or equivalent)
Desirable:
- Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Technology or relevant postgraduate qualification

About the Role
As a Medical Physics Registrar, you will work within the Radiation Oncology team, using physics principles to design, verify, and optimise radiation treatments for patients with cancer. You’ll contribute to the safe and effective delivery of therapy, applying your analytical and problem-solving skills in a clinical environment.
If required you’ll study toward or complete your MSc (Medical Physics) through the University of Canterbury, while gaining supervised clinical experience leading toward professional certification.

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse to join the Haematology Clinical Trials team. We are looking for a nurse with haematology or oncology knowledge and experience. Previous clinical trial experience is desirable however, this is not essential if you are enthusiastic about learning new skills and developing your knowledge in clinical research.
As part of the Haematology Clinical Trials team, you will be responsible for the safe administration of clinical trial investigational products, while providing expert nursing care, support and education to patients participating in research studies. You will work closely with Haematology Study Coordinators to undertake and document patient-related study assessments, including medication administration, vital signs, study blood collection and other assessments required by individual study protocols.
A key focus of the role is ensuring the safety, wellbeing and rights of study participants are protected throughout their involvement in clinical trials. You will provide high-quality supportive care and education during treatment delivery and observation, while working within the requirements of each clinical trial protocol.
The role also includes administrative responsibilities and will work closely alongside the Haematology Research team, based in the Manawa building. Patient treatment visits are undertaken in either the Haematology Day Ward or Haematology Outpatient area.
This is a 1.0 FTE permanent position and provides
an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical research knowledge and
contribute to innovative care within Haematology.
About the Service
The primary objective of the Haematology Clinical
Trials programme is to conduct high-quality research in accordance with ICH-GCP
guidelines and individual study protocols. Through participation in
well-designed clinical trials, we aim to contribute to improving the standards
of care available to our patients and provide access to innovative treatments
that may not otherwise be available in New Zealand.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Extensive nursing knowledge and clinical experience, preferably within haematology or oncology.
- Confidence and competence in administering intravenous infusions and providing patient education, including chemotherapy education.
- A strong commitment to providing safe, patient-centred care.
- Computer skills and data interpretation knowledge to complete accurate data collection for university-based studies and haematology registries.

- It is essential that you have the ability to think on your feet, triage and prioritise tāngata whaiora’s needs appropriately, and in a timely manner.
- You will work alongside tāngata whaiora who you will proactively engage with and support to engage with their treatment and other holistic supports.
- Highly developed risk assessment is important, as is your ability to develop effective rapport with people who may be mentally u.nwell or distressed.
- A key aspect of this role is the assessment and formulation of occupational therapy interventions, you will then take responsibility for undertaking these interventions alongside Whaiora.
- Liaising with whānau and other carers, NGOs, police, probation and other services is all part of this community-based role.
- There is an expectation that you will initiate, develop and provide group-based interventions for Whaiora.
- A minimum of 2 year’ experience in a mental health setting is preferable;
- New Zealand Registration as an Allied Health Professional with Annual Practicing certificate is essential
