About the Role
As a Medical Retina SMO, you will provide specialist
ophthalmology care with a focus on medical retina within the Christchurch
Hospital service. This is an opportunity to work alongside an experienced
multidisciplinary team, contribute to high-quality patient care, and support
the delivery of specialist ophthalmology services across Canterbury.
This 12 Month fixed-term position commencing February 2027, and would
suit an ophthalmologist with an interest and experience in medical retina who
is looking to contribute their expertise within a busy tertiary hospital
environment.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The Ophthalmology service at Christchurch Hospital provides specialist eye care for the Canterbury community and supports a broad range of ophthalmic services. You will work as part of a specialist clinical team committed to delivering safe, effective and patient-centred care.

About you
- As a Medical Retina SMO, you will bring relevant specialist ophthalmology experience and an interest or subspecialty expertise in medical retina.
- Registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Specialist qualification and/or experience appropriate to an SMO role in Ophthalmology
- Relevant experience and demonstrated interest in medical retina
- A commitment to high-quality, patient-centred clinical care and effective multidisciplinary teamwork
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to working collaboratively within a tertiary hospital environment

About the Role
We are seeking an organised, proactive and personable Nephrology Clinical Administrator to join the Nephrology Service at Christchurch Hospital on a permanent, full-time (1.0 FTE) basis.
This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of the Nephrology service, combining booking administration with medical transcription duties. You will manage outpatient clinic bookings, coordinate referrals through to triage and action, support the smooth running of the Thursday Nephrology clinic and Tuesday Fellow clinic, and manage bookings for the Nephrology Clinic Rooms and Nephrology–Urology Seminar Room. You will also type dictated clinical correspondence from SMOs and Registrars, ensuring letters are turned around accurately and within agreed timeframes.
Working closely with the Administration Team Leader, Service Manager, and Clinical Director/Triaging Clinician, you will be the first point of contact for many patients and staff, and a key link between clinicians, patients, GPs, and other health agencies across the wider Canterbury and West Coast regions.
As part of the Administration and Clerical Pay Equity Claim settlement this role has been mapped to National Band 4/Profile 4 (final placement step is dependent on skills, knowledge and experience)

About the Team / Service / Location
The Nephrology Service at Christchurch Hospital provides comprehensive tertiary renal services to the wider Canterbury and West Coast regions, including inpatient nephrology, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, home dialysis, and renal transplantation, supported by a dedicated multidisciplinary team.

About You
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Excellent customer service skills, with a people-focused approach to patients, clinicians and colleagues
- A technically savvy approach, with experience using data systems and confidence picking up new applications quickly
- Excellent organisational, time management and problem-solving skills
- A high level of accuracy and strong attention to detail
- The ability to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities and work unsupervised
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Excellent keyboard skills (50–70 wpm) and a high level of written and verbal communication
- A proactive, team-oriented approach and the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
It would also be great, but not essential, if you had:
- Broad administrative experience in a health-related field
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Familiarity with the public hospital system, including patient management systems
- Awareness of, and sensitivity to, people of differing cultural backgrounds

We are looking for an Administration Supervisor to join the General Surgery team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has strong administration experience, enjoys working in a busy healthcare environment and is ready to take the next step in their leadership journey.
As the Administration Supervisor, you will provide day-to-day supervision, guidance and technical support to the administration team, helping ensure patients and clinical teams receive an efficient, effective and high-quality service.
You will be a key source of knowledge across administrative processes, systems, National Planned Care guidelines and service requirements. Working closely with the Administrative Team Leader, you will help monitor patient flow, support the team to achieve key deliverables, resolve issues and contribute to ongoing service improvement.
This is a hands-on role where you will make a real difference to how the service operates. When required, you will also have the confidence and capability to step up and provide leadership in the absence of the Team Leader.

Your responsibilities will include:

If you have graduated as an Occupational Therapist within the last 12 months and are ready to take the exciting first steps in your career, we’d love to hear from you! We have an exciting opportunity to join our supportive and experienced Occupational Therapy team at Christchurch Hospital in a full-time, permanent rotational position (40 hours per week).
You’ll be primarily based at Christchurch Hospital, as well as completing a 12-month rotation at Burwood Hospital (within your first 24-months), giving you even greater exposure to different clinical environments and patient needs. This is a rotational role offering plenty of variety and opportunities to grow and develop your practice.
At Christchurch Hospital, our Occupational Therapists work across a wide range of clinical areas, including:
Trauma and Orthopaedics, General Medicine and Surgery, Neurology and Acute Stroke, Respiratory and Cardiology, Paediatrics, ICU and Emergency Department, Burns and Plastics, Oncology, Hand Therapy, and Home Visit Teams.
These are predominantly ward-based positions, giving you the opportunity to develop practical clinical skills while working alongside experienced multidisciplinary teams. Your rotations will be determined by your developing skills and experience, alongside the needs of our service.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Working to provide comprehensive inter-disciplinary and specific occupational therapy based assessments, patient centred goal setting, therapeutic interventions, and education to whānau and friends and IDT colleagues
- Working with patients from diverse social and cultural backgrounds and working collaboratively with whānau, the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure the best outcomes
- Delegation of clinical tasks to Allied Health Assistants
- Identifying service needs and contributing towards quality improvement initiatives
- Being involved in patient-centred discharge planning
- As part of the team you will also contribute to the weekend roster on a regular basis
About You
You will have a passion and desire to work in acute care within a team environment, and want to grow and develop professionally as an occupational therapist.
