Chef Manager Opportunity on the Menu at our Whanganui village.
Our Chef Managers are responsible for the smooth running of kitchen operations, from resident meal service to vibrant café offerings and special events, while leading a passionate culinary team. This is a varied, hands-on leadership role where you’ll help create great food experiences for residents and visitors, while ensuring quality, compliance, and commercial performance.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Preparing and cooking high-quality meals for residents, including those unable to visit the café
- Creating appealing menus and cabinet food that drive interest and enjoyment
- Catering for special events, celebrations, and fine dining experiences
- Leading, coaching, and supporting your kitchen team, including rostering and day-to-day guidance
- Managing stock, ordering, food storage, and kitchen equipment to keep operations running smoothly
- Ensuring full compliance with our Food Control Plan
- Monitoring costs, minimising waste, and supporting budget performance

This is a permanent full-time role and working Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.30pm.
You’ll be a qualified and experienced Chef with a passion for food, people, and leading a high-performing team. You’ll thrive in a busy environment, bring strong commercial awareness, and take pride in delivering consistently high standards.
You’ll also bring:
- A recognised professional cookery qualification
- Proven leadership experience in a high-output kitchen or similar environment
- Experience across set meal service, café offerings, and catering for events or functions
- Strong knowledge of food safety, compliance, and the Food Act
- Confidence managing stock, ordering, and day-to-day kitchen administration
- Strong communication skills and a genuine passion for mentoring others

We’re now looking for a Café Assistant for our growing Waikanae Village who shares our love for people and hospitality.
You’ll play a key role in delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring the smooth running of our café. From making great coffee to creating tasty cabinet food and light meals, you’ll help make our café a warm and welcoming place for residents, their families, and visitors. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Preparing, presenting, and serving food and drinks to a high standard
- Providing outstanding barista services
- Assisting with catering for village events and resident functions
- Handling cash and reconciling daily takings
This is a casual role, working on an 'as and when required basis'. The successful candidate will be available to work day shifts across the week and able to provide flexibility to meet service demands.
You’ll work closely with the Chef Manager, Café Supervisor, and wider village team to deliver a café experience that’s welcoming, consistent, and genuinely enjoyable.
You will bring a warm and positive approach to everything you do, along with:
- Previous hospitality or café experience
- Superb barista skills
- A warm, friendly personality with great customer service skills
- Excellent communication and the ability to multitask
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team

As a casual Kitchen Assistant for our Summerset by the Sea Village you’ll be at the heart of our kitchen’s day-to-day operations. Your support will help ensure our chefs can deliver nutritious, high-quality meals to our residents and visitors. From assisting with food prep to keeping the kitchen clean and organised, you’ll make a big difference behind the scenes – and you’ll be appreciated for it.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with basic food preparation such as peeling, chopping and portioning
- Helping with plating and presentation of meals
- Operating dishwashers and ensuring all kitchenware is properly sanitised
- Keeping kitchen areas clean, organised, and compliant
- Helping to receive, unpack and store deliveries, including stock rotation

This is a casual role offering hours on an as needed basis.
