About the Role

We are seeking a qualified Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physicist with ACPSEM registration in Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physics (Radiology) to join our specialised Medical Physics and Bioengineering team at Christchurch Hospital.

This is an opportunity to apply your specialist knowledge across a varied clinical portfolio, providing expert medical physics advice and services that support safe, effective and high-quality patient care. Your responsibilities will also extend to non-ionising radiation safety, including UV therapy, laser safety and ultrasound imaging quality assurance. Where required, training and professional development will be available to help you develop your expertise in these areas.

Alongside clinical service delivery, you will play an important role in education and workforce development. This includes teaching and training medical, scientific, technical and allied health professionals; supervising and mentoring ACPSEM registrars; and supporting students and trainees undertaking clinical placements, research projects and professional development activities.

You will also contribute to continuous quality improvement, supporting the maintenance and development of processes within our ISO 9001-certified quality management system.

Based at Christchurch Hospital, you will work within a specialised team providing medical physics and bioengineering expertise across multiple clinical disciplines. The breadth of the service offers the opportunity to collaborate with a range of clinical and technical professionals while contributing to the safe and effective use of imaging and therapy technologies.

Christchurch offers an enviable balance of professional opportunity and lifestyle. From the Port Hills and Banks Peninsula to the Canterbury foothills and Southern Alps, there are countless opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, alongside a vibrant city, beautiful beaches and a welcoming community.

About You

You are a motivated and collaborative medical physicist who brings sound technical expertise, a commitment to patient safety and a passion for continuous improvement.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in medical physics and ACPSEM registration in Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physics (Radiology).
  • Knowledge of diagnostic imaging physics, quality assurance and radiation safety principles.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • An interest in education, training and professional development, including supporting registrars, students and other health professionals.
  • A commitment to quality management, continuous improvement and maintaining high professional standards.

Experience or an interest in non-ionising radiation safety, including UV therapy, laser safety and ultrasound imaging quality assurance, would be advantageous. Support and training will be available where required.
