We are looking for Support Workers to join our team and play an important role in supporting people to live well, age well and experience a respectful end of life within their own communities.

Working under the direction of a Registered Health Professional, you will provide safe, high-quality and culturally respectful support that promotes dignity, independence and wellbeing.

Every day will be different. You will work alongside clients to support their individual needs, encourage participation in everyday activities and help them remain as independent and active as possible.

About the role

As a Support Worker, you will:

  • Provide compassionate, respectful and culturally safe support that enhances dignity and mana.
  • Support clients to remain independent and actively involved in their own care.
  • Encourage participation in everyday activities that promote wellbeing, confidence and independence.
  • Follow individual care plans, organisational policies and procedures to ensure safe and consistent support.
  • Work under the direction of Registered Health Professionals and as part of a wider care team.
  • Build positive and respectful relationships with clients, whānau and colleagues.
  • Support people to remain connected with their communities and maintain their quality of life.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to changes in a client's needs and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to an inclusive and responsive service that meets the needs of the communities we serve.
  • Use technology effectively for communication, documentation and service administration.
  • Participate in ongoing training and skills development, working towards the full extent of your scope of practice.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as agreed with your manager.

Supporting better outcomes

Our Support Workers play an important role in improving access to services and achieving positive outcomes for the people and communities we serve.

You will contribute by:

  • Identifying barriers that may affect a person's ability to access or engage with services.
  • Sharing your observations and insights with the wider care team.
  • Supporting inclusive, responsive and person-centred service delivery.
  • Looking for practical ways to improve the experience and outcomes of the people you support.

What you'll need

Essential:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2), or a willingness to undertake this qualification with our support, with opportunities to progress to Level 3 and potentially Level 4.
  • A current full New Zealand driver's licence.
  • Competence using Microsoft applications and similar computer systems.
  • A commitment to providing safe, respectful and person-centred support.

It would be an advantage if you have:

  • Previous experience as a Support Worker, Healthcare Assistant, Caregiver or similar role.
  • Experience working in a community, hospital, aged residential care or other healthcare setting.
  • Experience supporting people with complex or changing needs.
