Medical Retina SMO | Christchurch Hospital, 12 Month Fixed Term

About the Role

As a Medical Retina SMO, you will provide specialist ophthalmology care with a focus on medical retina within the Christchurch Hospital service. This is an opportunity to work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team, contribute to high-quality patient care, and support the delivery of specialist ophthalmology services across Canterbury.

This 12 Month fixed-term position commencing February 2027, and would suit an ophthalmologist with an interest and experience in medical retina who is looking to contribute their expertise within a busy tertiary hospital environment.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Ophthalmology service at Christchurch Hospital provides specialist eye care for the Canterbury community and supports a broad range of ophthalmic services. You will work as part of a specialist clinical team committed to delivering safe, effective and patient-centred care.

About you

  • As a Medical Retina SMO, you will bring relevant specialist ophthalmology experience and an interest or subspecialty expertise in medical retina.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • Specialist qualification and/or experience appropriate to an SMO role in Ophthalmology
  • Relevant experience and demonstrated interest in medical retina
  • A commitment to high-quality, patient-centred clinical care and effective multidisciplinary teamwork
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to working collaboratively within a tertiary hospital environment
