The Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit is a dynamic, patient-focused service providing a wide range of diagnostic and interventional endoscopy procedures. As a Sterile Technician in endoscope reprocessing, you will work in a team reprocessing endoscopes to meet service needs

About the Role

The Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit undertakes more than 14,000 diagnostic and interventional procedures annually and provides specialised gastrointestinal and respiratory services to the Canterbury population. The service also acts as a secondary and tertiary referral centre for the South Island.

The unit operates from a purpose-built facility at Christchurch Hospital, with eight procedure rooms, two recovery areas and two reprocessing areas, across two floors. It also provides specialist endoscopy equipment to other areas of the hospital campus including Waipapa and Parkside Operating Theatres, Interventional Radiology, and ICU.

In this role you will work 8 hourr shifts, Monday to Friday between the hours of 0730 - 1800hrs with pro rata participation in an on-call roster from 0800hrs Saturday to 2000hrs Sunday for acute endoscopy procedures.

This key team is looking for Qualified Sterile Services Technicians to join us on a permanent basis.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing direct technical processing of reusable medical devices (RMDs);
  • Ensuring decontamination is achieved through the correct washing process;
  • Ensuring that RMDs are inspected and tested as required and specific to each RMD;
  • Ensuring all required documentation is completed.

About You

In this role you will work within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of both internal and external stakeholders. This is a fast-paced clinical environment where flexibility, strong clinical judgement, and excellent teamwork are essential

  • You will need to be able to perform well under pressure;
  • A high level of attention to detail;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Knowledge of te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • You will also need to be physically fit as this role involves standing for extended periods
  • NZSSA Sterilising Technology Certification.
